About Dean

  • Has over 30 years clinical experience and an advanced clinical qualification in treating the muscles, joints and nerves in the spine and limbs
  • Has a PhD qualification in Physiotherapy from King's College, London. Dr Phillips thesis investigated the awareness of posture and movement in people with and without low back pain
  • Dean wrote an important national themed review published in 2018 by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) titled "Moving Forward: Physiotherapy for Musculoskeletal Health and Wellbeing”  It shows investment in physiotherapy services for musculoskeletal conditions improves patient outcomes and reduces overall healthcare costs.   • Has a specialist research Masters qualification in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
  • Is registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
  • Is a Member of the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) in recognition of achieving a standard of excellence in the management of musculoskeletal conditions
  • Has worked in a variety of clinical settings – a national sports council treating elite athletes including world champions and Olympians, as well as physiotherapist at National and International sporting events; private physiotherapy clinics; a chronic pain centre; private and NHS hospitals; and in occupational health treating NHS staff for local Primary Care Trusts
  • Leads the musculoskeletal teaching to physiotherapy students at the University of Southampton introducing students to evidence-based approaches like Escape-Pain and Cognitive Functional Therapy (CFT)
  • Has taught specialised clinical skills to qualified physiotherapists
  • Is committed to providing you with the most effective treatment based on current research and best practice
  • Has received prestigious research grants
  • Has presented and published his research nationally and internationally
